Portland
My awesomely cool home-metropolitan-area!
Bard visited Portland, so we visited fun places.
Also, I took a break from veganism occasionally (for my mum's sake), and enjoyed a few new food places.
My First Tapas Bar.
After a somewhat scary drive through dark and rainy Portland, we found the Spanish restaurant in North Portland. We were seated quickly right next to a cook. He was helpful, and gave us some excellent recommendations.
It was more expensive than we usually go for, but it was Bard's last meal in Portland (we were on our way to PDX). There were fewer vegetarian things here, so we had to ask for some guidance.
I had a sort of orange salad (can't find the name). It wasn't that much food for the price, but it had a very good taste. Slices of oranges with some sort of olives on top. It also was served really quickly.
Bard got something with pork. He liked.
I then went into vegetarian-mode and got "Grilled Flat Bread with black truffle cheese & arugula". Sooo tasty. It was pretty salty too, but I loved it.
I've been going here since I was a little kid. It used to just have bulk grains, and plenty of geese outside. We'd buy some corn and throw it at said geese, and they seemed to enjoy it. Also, whenever I see Bob's Red Mill products down in SoCal or wherever, I tend to jump up and down and exclaim that I grew up right near that place!
We went here for lunch, and I had their delicious Veggie Supreme. It was almost vegan (I think there was honey in the bread), and awesomely delicious. Eh, though the vegan cheese was so-so. It melts! But still tastes pretty artificial.
Bard saw that they surved breakfast, and because he _loves_ breakfast, we came back. Since it was about 2, I didn't opt for the breakfast, and this time got their Veggie Burger. It was tasty, but again, the vegan cheese was artificial like.
As dinnertime approached during our OMSI trip, our stomachs told us to find some food, and that the little OMSI snack place wouldn't be enough. My Droid told me there was an awesome restaurant up the street (which was only slightly homeless-person-ful, and they weren't going to hurt anyone).
We got there around 4, and got a seat right away (we chose one by the bathroom and kitchen, which probably wasn't the best choice, but eh). We ordered two Mezza Platters (mine was vegan, his was meaty). We got a huge piece of pita bread to split, which was tasty.
The falafel was a little soft (nothing like Saca's), but tasted pretty good with the pita bread. The hummus and tahini? was quite tasty. I was given some rice and lentils, which were soooo insanely good. I'm drooling just thinking about it. There was also this garbanzo bean mush, which looked like, uh, yellow mush, and had a strange texture, but had a wonderful mush.
There was plenty of food, and I couldn't finish all of it. Brad ate most of his (he had a kabab and a star-shaped lamb pastry, along with a falafel/hummus plate like mine).
